Millions came together on May 14, 2017 to honor the women who deserve to be thanked the most: mothers. And while the Trump family always commemorates holidays in a big way, they took their celebration of Mother's Day a step further and expressed their gratitude two days before the big day.
To kick off the special day, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump first welcomed service members, spouses, and mothers to the East Wing of the White House to celebrate military moms.
"This is one of the many opportunities for us to thank the incredible military mothers who love and care for our nation's heroes, and they are heroes, so thank you very much, and the mothers are heroes, too," the president said. "It is your sacrifice that protects our nation safeguards, our liberties and makes sure our beautiful American flag always waves proudly above our very glorious land."
Even Melania, who doesn't regularly give formal remarks to the public, added her own heartwarming words to express her gratitude.
"I, too, am a mother," she said. "However, I have no idea what kind of different challenges each of you must face as the parent of a soldier. And while you stand with many other parents so strong and so proud, I am sure that you sometimes march on this journey alone."
And on Mother's Day, the president issued a special proclamation to thank not only military mothers, but also all the selfless moms who sacrifice so much for their families.
"They lead us through our deepest lessons about perseverance and hard work, preparing us for life's responsibilities," Trump said. "Whether by birth, adoption, or foster care, our Nation's mothers give selflessly of themselves for the well‑being of the lives and futures of others. We humbly thank them for this greatest gift."
And, of course, POTUS personally wished a happy Mother's Day to Melania via Twitter.
Mother's Day may only be acknowledged once a year, but it's important to recognize everything mothers do each and every day!
