As busy as President Donald Trump is while he's making our country great again, our troops and killed in action.
Joined by first lady Melania Trump, Trump awarded the medal to Sgt. 1st Class Alvaro Barrientos, who was wounded in action in Afghanistan on March 17 and forced to undergo a partial leg amputation due to his injuries, according to the Associated Press.
"When I heard about this ... I wanted to do it myself," President Trump told Barrientos during a brief ceremony at the medical center. "Congratulations on behalf of Melania and myself and the entire nation," he added. "Tremendous."
The visit to the hospital, a frequent stop for presidents, was a first of what we assume will be many for our compassionate president. And Barrientos wasn't the only one who was honored. While there, Trump also met with around a dozen other service members.
Unlike President Barack Obama, Trump decided to allow the media to cover the special ceremony. After all, every American should be able to see the men and women who serve our country. And allowing media coverage also allowed Trump to share his gratitude with others!
