Student Gets Suspended For Violating Weapons Policy After Sharing Fruit

A South Florida couple’s daughter was just generously sharing a piece of her peach with a classmate before learning that she was in serious trouble.

The 11-year-old honor roll student was suspended for six days for bringing a butter knife to Silver Trail Middle School in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

Ronald and Andrea Souto were outraged to learn that their daughter had been suspended from school over just trying to help a friend.

"There's no one there trying to educate and to be reasonable to say, 'Let's work this out,'" the girl's father, Ronald Souto, told their Local 10 News.

Ronald explained that his daughter cut half of the peach to give to her friend, and went to the bathroom. When she came back, a man approached her and said, “Follow me.”

“This is a set of a spoon, fork and knife for toddlers -- one year old," Andrea Souto said. "It is made for children to learn how to eat properly. She's used it since she was baby.”

The Pembroke Pines Police Department revealed that it has turned over the investigation to the State Attorney's Office.

As of right now, it’s unclear if the 11-year-old will be facing any charges.
